Bud Black – Biographical Brief
Harry Ralston “Bud” Black is a former major league player, coach, and is now manager of the Colorado Rockies.
He played in the majors as a pitcher from 1981 through 1995, most notably for the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians.
He was the pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2000 through 2006 and managed the San Diego Padres from 2007 through 2015. He was named the National League Manager of the Year in 2010.
Buddy, as he prefers to be called, had a 15-year career in the majors. He won 121 games and lost 116. His lifetime ERA was 3.84.
His best year was 1984, when he won 17 games for the Royals, while losing 12. He posted an ERA of 3.12
Buddy’s extremely personable and is held in high regard by everyone who knows him.
He and his wife, Nan, have two daughters, and just became grandparents.
